How to Get an SS Number
An SS Number is your permanent Social Security System (SSS) membership number. It is required for employment, SSS benefits, loans, and future contributions. This guide explains how first-time applicants can register and obtain their SS Number.
Government agency: Social Security System (SSS)
Before you begin
- Who is this for? Individuals applying for their first SS Number, including:
- First-time employees
- Self-employed individuals
- Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs)
- Non-working spouses
- Household workers
- Employers registering themselves (where applicable)
- Can you apply online? Yes.
- First-time applicants can apply online through the official SSS website. SSS also provides assistance at its branch Electronic Centers (E-Centers) for those who need help with registration.
- What should you prepare?
- Prepare your personal information, a valid email address, and supporting documents before starting your online registration.
- Important to know:
- Receiving an SS Number does not automatically make you an active SSS member. Coverage begins only when the required contribution conditions for your membership category are met (for example, when your employer reports and pays contributions for employees).
