Healthcare Support

Need Help With Medical Bills? Know Where to Start

Medical expenses can add up quickly, but you may not have to cover everything on your own. Depending on your situation, support may be available through PhilHealth, government medical assistance programs, and your local government.

What Support Can You Get?

Depending on your needs and eligibility, you may be able to get help with hospital costs, medical treatment, medicines, and other health-related expenses.

PhilHealth Benefits

PhilHealth may help cover part of your hospital stay, procedures, and other covered healthcare services. Check your membership status, eligibility, and the benefits available for your treatment.

PCSO Medical Assistance

The Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) may provide medical assistance to qualified patients through its Medical Assistance Program (MAP). Assistance may cover needs such as hospitalization, medicines, laboratory services, and medical procedures, subject to current requirements and assessment.

DSWD Medical Assistance

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) provides medical assistance through its Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situations (AICS) program. Depending on the assessment, assistance may help with hospitalization, medicines, laboratory procedures, and other medical needs.

Local Government Assistance

Your city, municipality, or provincial government may have its own medical assistance programs or may connect you with local health and social welfare services. Check with your local City/Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO/MSWDO) or provincial social welfare office to find out what is available in your area.

not sure where to start?

If you’re currently receiving treatment at a participating hospital, ask if there is a Malasakit Center. These centers bring together agencies including PhilHealth, PCSO, and DSWD to help eligible patients seek medical and financial assistance in one place.

STEP-BY-STEP: HOW TO seek medical assistance

Follow these steps to organize your documents and check which support programs may apply to your case.

GOOD TO KNOW

A few reminders can make the process easier and help you avoid delays.

Support may come from more than one source
Some families combine PhilHealth coverage with assistance from PCSO, DSWD, or local government offices, depending on what is allowed and currently available.

Complete documents matter
Missing records can slow down processing. Bring updated medical documents, billing records, and identification whenever you ask for assistance.

Ask early and ask clearly
If you are already dealing with hospital bills, start asking about available support as soon as possible so you can understand your options before discharge or payment deadlines.

Keep copies of everything
Save digital or printed copies of forms, certificates, and billing statements in case another office asks for the same documents.

Official rules can change
Programs, requirements, and available funds may change over time, so always confirm the latest instructions with the agency or office handling your request.
