Pregnancy comes with real government support: paid leave, medical coverage, and cash benefits.

Most Filipinas don’t claim everything they qualify for simply because no one explained the process. Here’s exactly what to do, in order.

WHAT YOU MAY BE ELIGIBLE FOR

  • SSS Maternity Benefit — a cash benefit for live childbirth, miscarriage, or emergency termination of pregnancy.
  • 105-Day Expanded Maternity Leave — paid leave for employed members.
  • PhilHealth Maternity Care Package — coverage for prenatal checkups, delivery, and postnatal care.
  • Employer-paid leave benefits — check your HR policy for anything extra.

Step-by-step

  • Confirm your SSS and PhilHealth membership is active.
  • Log into your SSS and PhilHealth online accounts to confirm your contributions are up to date.
  • Notify SSS of your pregnancy.
  • File a Maternity Notification with SSS as early as possible in your pregnancy through the My.SSS portal.
  • Inform your employer if employed.
  • Submit your Maternity Notification and expected due date to your HR/payroll department.
  • Deliver and gather your documents.
  • You’ll typically need your child’s birth certificate, your SSS Maternity Notification, and proof of your last salary if employed.
  • File your SSS Maternity Benefit claim.
  • Submit your claim through the My.SSS portal or an SSS branch, along with your supporting documents.
  • Use your PhilHealth coverage.
  • Confirm with the hospital’s billing department that your PhilHealth benefit is deducted before you’re discharged.

Good to know

  • Solo parents may be entitled to additional leave days under the Solo Parents’ Welfare Act.
  • Self-employed and voluntary SSS members can still claim maternity benefits, but the documentation differs slightly.
  • Sayang naman kung hindi mo alam — file your SSS notification as early as possible so you don’t miss out.
